Horses are incredible specimens and the life of a horse rider is rewarding but also hard work. Here are a few things that every horse rider can relate to.
Toned Glutes and Legs
No need to go hell for leather with a workout regime. While your friends will work their butt off in the gym, as a horse rider you’ll undoubtedly already have beautifully toned legs and glutes; great for those fitted jeans and no need to dread ‘leg day’. Toning and muscle building while having fun. Result!
Good Posture
When riding, the upper body is straight with the head always looking forward. Hypothetically speaking you should be able to draw a straight line from the shoulder to the hip to the foot of the rider. As you get used to sitting like this when riding, you’ll no doubt carry on this fantastically straight posture in all other aspects of life. Good posture is good for the body.
The Summer T-Shirt Tan
An unavoidable and well-earned polo tan line from riding in the sunshine! No matter how much you lather up the sun cream it doesn’t matter. Over the Spring and Summer months the skin glow will build up, leaving you with the beautiful t-shirt tan lines… what a delight.
Patience of a Saint
Patience is a must for horse riders, especially if you do dressage. While you’re getting to know your horse and both learn to move with each other it can take time to get it right. A bit of patience goes a long way and if you weren’t a patient person before, it’s soon learnt when you start horse riding.
Nail Care is Not on Your Agenda
Now, we all know that mucking out a barn is not pretty work! It’s hard graft and a mucky game so there’s no way a manicured hand will stay looking pretty for too long! Unless you’re getting a gel polish then there’s not much point in painting those nails. If you’re lucky enough to have the Mayo Mattress in your stable then you’ll find mucking out is much less difficult as you only need enough loose bedding to absorb moisture – don’t rub it in for those that have to muck out a deep bed!
Early Riser
Whether it’s raining, sunny, snowing or thunderstorms, there’s no getting out of those early mornings. Feeding and mucking out are down to you to make sure your horse is comfortable, happy and well looked after. Then a morning ride if your schedule allows, or turned out if the weather is nice.
Most Part of the Wardrobe is Riding Clothing
Most women will have an unnecessary number of shoes, outfits and bags, and for men a reem of t-shirts and trainers that rarely get worn. A horse rider’s wardrobe is predominantly riding clothing… jodhpurs, polo shirts, gillets, jackets and it goes on! You can never have enough riding wear, right?!
Your Best Friend is Your Horse
No matter what kind of day you’ve had or what mood you’re in you’ve always got time to see your number one – your best friend is your horse.
